- We believe that attention to appearance and a student's attitude toward self and school are related. Good taste, good grooming, and appropriateness of attire are a part of learning for both boys and girls. However, we recognize that students' mode of dress and grooming is a manifestation of their personal style and individual preference. We believe that students and parents can freely choose apparel that demonstrates individuality, as well as maintain the standards of appropriateness. According to Governing Board Policy 2105* "A consistent dress and grooming policy is necessary in order to maintain order, provide a safe school environment and promote discipline. Dress or grooming that draw undue attention detract from the educational process and are therefore unacceptable."Click here for a copy of the complete policy. The Clovis Unified School District Administrative Regulation 2105* enforces a dress code for all students, grades K-12. Sound judgment and reasonableness must prevail in interpreting the dress code. Its purpose is to foster students' pride in themselves and to instill the attitudes, values, and standards reflected by the society in which the students will take their place. All clothing shall be neat, clean and acceptable in appearance and shall be worn within the bounds of decency and good taste as appropriate for school. At their June 26, 2002, meeting the Clovis Unified School District Governing Board approved the wearing of backless shoes for students in grades 7-12 The following excerpt is from Administrative Regulation 2105*:Shoes, or sandals without heel straps that do not present a safety concern may be worn by students in grades 7 through 12, except during physical education classes, recess, while participating in school-related athletic competitions, events or activities, or while participating in other activities where safety is a concern. Backless shoes commonly known as "flip-flops," "beach shoes," "soccer sandals," "zories" and/or thongs are inappropriate and will not be allowed. For safety reasons, students in grades pre-school through 6 are not allowed to wear flip-flops, shoes or sandals without a heel strap.

The Dilemma
It is unclear whether excessive piercings are acceptable at school. There is no restriction in any restaurants, plazas, museum, library, or, stores that doesnt let an overpierced face or body. However learing at school does require more concentration and focus that choosing what to eat at a restaurant.

I don't think that piercings are that big of a deal. They aren't really distracting and don't keep us from learning.
I agree with this blog. I do not think that excessive piercings are good in school because, yes it could be distracting to people who are easily distracted. Also, I don't think it is healthy to have a lot of piercings.
I think piercings are fine as long as people dont come to school with their face covered in metal.
Who cares if you have piercings at school, its their choice.
Some piercings should be allowed like the ear and places that cant be seen. but when teenagers have piercing all over their body and distracts people it should be banned.
i dont really care about whether or not people have piercings, but it should be up to them anyways.
piercing to me aren't much of a big deal. To me it's OK if piercings are on earlobes but anywhere else...then they could be too distracting.
i dont see how some oddly placed piercing affects learning in class. thats stupid. just cuz some girl might have her eyebrow pierced its not like im gonna stop learning and think about that
Most of the time piercings are alright, but when people get out of hand and start piercing in unnecessary places, it really does become a distraction for some people.
I think that excesive piercings can be a big destraction to some people.
A lot of girls(and some guys) already have regularly pierced ears and they aren't distracting. I don't think more piercings are distracting at all.
i think that peircings shouldnt matter. ppl should have the freedom to do whatevr they want with their body.
I dont think the peircing thing is not a big deal. They arent that distracting
I get it if a person has a million piercings but other than that I don't see the distraction.
the whole piercing thing is dumb, or at least I think so. Most kids don't even bother to follow that rule anyways. They're not really that distracting either, so yeah...
i dont think that peircings distract anyone although sometimes they can be creepy.
I agree with Ian....some piercings are creppy, but they don't distract us
if you have too many piercings you'll poke your eye out.
I think there making a big deal out of it. But you should have that much.
i think they should let us have piercing unless the piercing looks all nasty then no
Piercings in unusual places on the body are distracting.
I believe students should be able to have whatever piercings they like its not fair for the school to decide if they can or cannot that is their parents choice
I dont think its a huge problem to have piercings, unless u can't see any skin.
hes right i agree, it doesnt matter
I think this is the stupidest rule. They should let us have peircings it doesnt distract us and we are still learning.
I think that peircing shoud be aloud because peoples parents let them get it so that should be no problem to have them at school.
i agree i think it is blood loss to others i mean it is not good for the human body i mean girls look ugly if they have piercing in other places other then what there are for like ears are fine.
I think it depends on the place of the piercing
